Meal Preparation

Proper nutrition is vital to a healthy life at any age. Seniors tend to eat less as their metabolism slows and nutritional needs change, but what if a loved one won’t eat properly or hardly eats at all?

Reasons seniors don’t eat properly:

-Reduced sense of taste and smell
-Poor eyesight
-Medications that affect appetite
-Oral health issues
-Slower digestion causing constipation
-Lack of desire or ability to cook
-Eating alone

Ways to encourage seniors to eat:

-Prepare healthy balanced meals
-Cook and freeze extra meals
-Serve smaller portions high in nutrients
-Provide a variety of healthy snacks
-Set a regular eating and snack schedule
-Encourage hydration
-Take note of likes and dislikes

The benefits of proper nutrition for seniors range from increased mental capacity and higher energy levels to better resistance to illness and disease. A senior with better eating habits will feel better overall and live longer and stronger.

Meal Planning, Preparation and clean up can make all the difference.

Medication Reminders

One of the most common causes of hospitalizations in the elderly is related to errors with medication use. Our caregivers can make sure your loved one doesn’t forget to take their medication as prescribed by the doctor—on-time and in the correct dose. Graceful Living Home Care Services offers medication supervision as part of our Home Care Plan to those who require it. The punctual reminders given by our caregivers ensure that medication is never missed or taken incorrectly.

Light Housekeeping

Have you noticed if your parents are having a difficult time keeping the house tidy? Often when a person has health or mobility issues its difficult to keep up with household chores. Companionship

A major concern for the aging population is isolation and loneliness. Some difficult changes that seniors experience, which can lead to a solitary life are:

-Shrinking social circles
-Declining health
-Loss of mobility
-Lack of transportation

Studies have shown that feelings of loneliness can effect both mental and physical health in the elderly.

Known effects include:

-Depression
-Anxiety
-Increased blood pressure
-Reduced cognitive function
-Increased risk of developing Dementia
-Decline in health and shorter life spans

Companionship Care offers seniors a positive interaction enabling them to do the things they enjoy:

-Chat over tea
-Look through family photos
-Play favourite games
-Hobbies
-Go out shopping
-See a movie

…a little companionship can go a long way.

Accompanied Outings

Getting to and from appointments can be challenging for seniors as they may find that they are unable to go independently and find it frustrating trying to coordinate transportation with friends or family during the work day.

Many children of aging parents worry about their parents well-being when they are out on their own.  A Graceful Living Home Care Services qualified caregiver can accompany your loved one for the duration of an appointment or an outing, ensuring a safe arrival home. Accompanied Outings not only offer a safe solution but also provide families with peace of mind.

Pet Care

Having a pet can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, increase social interaction, reduce depression and lessen loneliness.
Knowing how important a pet can be to the elderly and how they contribute to their happiness, Graceful Living Home Care Services has incorporated Pet Care services into our Home Care Plans.

“Animals’ non-verbal communication and profound acceptance can be soothing for those with difficulty using language; some may even connect with memories of their own treasured pets” (Byrne, 2015).

Our mother was cared for with love and respect up until her last moment.  Her greatest wish was to stay in her home and because of Kim Forget and her team, she was able to do this with dignity.

We will always be indebted to Kim Forget and Graceful Living Home Care for giving our mother her life back and for making ours so much easier.
